On the Ground at The Wine Cup 2026: The Heat, The Joy, and The Art of The Pivot

How GurlCo Media documents women-led brands in their element under the blazing summer sun.
A vendor wearing a gold bracelet and blue glove pours wine into a glass held by a woman in a yellow floral dress during an outdoor summer event.

Small crew, clean glass, real heat—documenting three standout, women-led brands in their element.

Under the June summer sun at The Navy Yard for The Wine Cup 2026 (sponsored by Shakia Williams of Cyrenity Sips), live outdoor events are chaotic by nature. But as storytellers, we don’t fight the chaos—we use it. Direct sunlight, shifting crowds, and intense heat aren’t obstacles; they’re the raw texture that separates a sterile commercial shoot from a living, breathing brand narrative.

We intentionally kept our footprint small to stay nimble, take up less physical space in the crowd, and protect the gear without obstructing the event flow:

  • Video Capture: Panasonic Lumix G7. We intentionally left our heavy studio Blackmagic rigs behind in favor of a lean setup that let us move fast in the heat and capture raw, unprompted moments without intimidating our subjects.
  • Stills Capture: Canon camera body for crisp, high-resolution editorial photography.
  • Lenses: 25mm (for tight, intimate detail shots) and 42.5mm (for smooth, cinematic subject separation).
  • Mobile Capture: Dedicated mobile setup optimized for native 9:16 vertical storytelling.
  • Audio: Compact wireless mics to isolate clean, crisp voiceovers against heavy outdoor ambient noise.
  • Post-Production: Cut and finished in Final Cut Pro (FCP) for a seamless 9:16 vertical workflow.

Managing the entire lifecycle from concept to completion ensures the founder’s voice stays intact from the initial interview on set to the final export.
